Tenth and Last Class Reflection Post on Class 4/28
The Civil Rights movement is by far one of the greatest acheivements of American Society. Although a little slow in coming, the determination and willingness to face trials and tribulations of individuals such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr is unforgettable. We also learned about Malcom X and how he was very different from Martin Luther King, since he was for a radical black rights movement and started his career with the islamic race before learning that its almost impossible to have a competely homogenous civilization.
We also talked about the Cold War connection with the Civil Rights Movement and how it tied in with the “fear of communism” people had. Little Rock Arkansas was forced to desegregate their schools and the people went nuts. Which I think is ridiculous, obviously since “all men are (supposeably) created equal”. But we looked at images which implied the whole world was startled at the situation in Little Rock.
Personally I think the south during this time was being a little ignorant since they just wanted to keep supressing blacks for a.) economic reasons and b.) because they were too stubborn to take the time to admit they were morally wrong and selfish. As we see now, its much more economically profitable to have people work instead of being enslaved for numerous reasons including improved work ethic and increased functionality, performance and production. The civil rights in America unfortunately came long after the rights of blacks were sought by other nations but it shows the adaptability of America to change to whatever situation occurs.
I’m kind of dissapointed that nothing is happening with my wikipedia article, others have been deleted, praised or redirected and mine..just sits there. I guess we’ll keep an eye on it and hope something happens. This has been a great year, I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Thanks!
