Wikipedia Reflection Article

I have learned a lot from submitting an article to Wikipedia and also from others experiences with creating an article with this encyclopedia provider. Unfortunately, my article did not receive any attention, so far anyways. Although i cannot tell if anyone has looked at it or not, there is nothing under the discussion page except from when i wrote “looks good :-) ” to try and maybe start some conversation, well that didnt work. Also, under the history page, no one has attempted to edit the article since I have. This might be because the article is perfect and there is nothing anyone can think of to make it better. :-)

Others have had quite different experiences. Some have been deleted right on the spot, which i can understand since the Wikipedia community is a tight collar community who care very much about articles submitted which might desecrate their overall reputation. Those particular articles might have accidently submitted wrong information or had errors in their bibliographies, for them it would be a good learning experience.

i have learned a lot from writing this article. For starters I learned that different publishing companies have different formats for submitting articles, wikipedia’s is quite different from any other which I have used. I learned that it may be required to change the format of an article to meet the specifications of whatver company is willing to publish it on their site.  I have also learned that you have to be concious of who the reader is for your material and that it is essential that everything you say is accurate and unbiased. In addition I have learned to use a broad spectrum of resources and data to support my claims. Evidence is the most important when creating an article because without it your argument is worthless.

This process of submitting a Wikipedia article has been a little more cumbersome than expected but I enjoyed having my work readily available for anyone to read online. Like you I’m all about transparency and think information should be easily accessible. I’ll still keep an eye on my article to see if anyone comments or makes additions to it and perhaps I’ll write another one in the years to come.
